The new design is more efficient than a two-car carrier and more convenient and less expensive than a four-car carrier.

“In this business, volume is everything,” says Noe Gramajo, owner of Technique Towing in Oakhurst, Calif. “Since we purchased a three-car carrier from Zip’s, we aren’t making wasted trips.”

Gramajo is referring to a common problem: a driver is dispatched with a two-car carrier because one of two vehicles is reported as towable. The driver arrives to find neither is towable. It’s going to mean an extra trip.

Gramjo says the three-car carrier means his driver will be able to haul at least two vehicles no matter what their condition, and a third if it is towable.  “We’ve already increased our number of tows per day,” he says. “It won’t be long and this truck will pay for itself.”

Zip’s, in cooperation with Miller Industries, designed this three-car carrier to solve a specific problem.  “For many applications four-car carriers are too big and cost too much, while a two-car carrier just isn’t enough,” says Paul Rottinghaus, Zip’s president. The new carrier handles three cars without adding bed length because the third car is hauled on a top deck above the cab.

“That’s another advantage,” Gramjo adds. “In the close quarters of a salvage yard, length is not a problem with the three-car carrier like it would be with a longer four-car carrier.”

The three-car carrier from Zip’s has a 13-foot, six-inch top deck and 21- or 22–foot main deck. Decks are available in aluminum for weight savings and good looks, or steel for rugged durability. Floors are available in smooth steel, smooth aluminum, steel treadplate or extruded aluminum. A wheel lift allows for the towing of a third vehicle. The three-car can be built on a variety of chassis. A Ford F750 chassis with a low-profile cab provides low overhead clearance while maximizing the cargo area for the top deck. The main deck has a 15,000-pound capacity.
